School holiday
programs
We offer very interactive and
participative holiday programs in either Ancient or Medieval
history.
We DO NOT just show and tell!
Every child takes part in every activity, and our presenters are
skilled at including all ages in an enjoyable way. (Our highly
skilled staff include registered teachers, primary teachers, sports
coaches, and actors from backgrounds like the ‘Safety House’
program and other primary specialists.)
These days can include various
combinations of our activities. For instance a Medieval day might
have elements of: Weapons and Armour; Fashion and Dress; Crime and
Punishment; Medieval Games; Archery; Medieval Dancing; Troubadours
and Juggling; and the very popular ‘Training a Squire’.
Each of our presenters can come
to your venue for a ‘half day’, which is either 9-12 am or 1-4 pm,
or a ‘full day’ (at 25% extra), which is 9 am – 4 pm.
A cost effective solution is
for two nearby venues to hire the presenter to spend the morning at
one venue and the afternoon at the other. Allowing for a small
relocation fee, this would leave each of the sharing venues to pay
33% less for the same 3 hours of presentation than they would have
paid if booking a half day on their own.
Naturally larger groups might
require more than one presenter so that we can rotate groups
between activities. (Some of the larger rural venues we ran
‘bush-fire relief’ programs for have needed 4 or 5 presenters to
rotate 150 kids in five groups of 30 through a full day of
activities.)
Another cost reducing strategy
is for our presenters to do the more intensive topics that require
specialist props and knowledge, and for the venues own regular
staff to run a couple of simple scripted activities that fit with
the theme of the day. These might include Medieval Games, Heraldry,
or Archery (very safe rubber tipped arrows against padded
knight-shaped targets). We provide the kit and the script, and one
of your own staff runs the activity.
Some venues increase enthusiasm
by dividing each group into teams, and we score the teams
throughout the day and do something special for the
winners.
No matter the size or age range
of your program, we can provide a program that will leave the
regular venue staff excited, the parents impressed, and the kids
begging for more.
