"An

Rosewood Downs Primary School 2007
For a long
time now, our staff have been honing a wide range of classroom
skills. At the same time we have been avidly seeking ever
more qualified and experienced presenters.
The staff
listed below have an unrivalled background in making presentations
informative, enjoyable, and memorable...
Peter has a background in adult
education and TAFE teaching, as well in the military: all of
which makes him an excellent classroom manager and presenter.
He is one of our staff who has participated in various
historical re-creation groups, and he has built up a background of
skills in areas as diverse as calligraphy and armour
making.
Peter has developed a large
repertoire of topics, and is constantly developing new themes to
add to existing presentations. As he is currently undertaking
a Masters in Future Studies, he can offer programs that fall
somewhat outside our normal history streams (though clearly he and
we would consider them to be related concepts).
We are also extremely lucky
that Peter's Fine Arts degree and TAFE experience is in metal
sculpting... See our new topic Ancient Metal Smelting and
Casting.

Leah is a 0.6 primary teacher,
specialising in art and other interactive sessions. The fact
that she also has a background with a variety of medieval
recreation groups, just increases her knowledge and
enthusiasm.
She now knows quite a few of
our topics, and has been particularly helpful with developing our
primary school techniques.
Leah is receiving excellent
feedback from the schools she has presented at.
|
Megan is a new graduate history
teacher who is getting as much variety of teaching experience as
she can by learning a variety of our topics.
With a background in Living
History and Recreation activities during her university studies,
Meg is a natural fit as a trained historian presenter with proper
pedagogical knowledge. Her feedback forms have particularly
commented on her willingness to explore wider issues with the
students.
|
Sally is an experienced ESL
teacher who regularly contracts for tertiary institutions. She has
joined the Medieval Edcuation team because she enjoys the chance to
teach new things and interact with a wider variety of
students.
Sally has recieved fantastic
feedback from shools, and is learning new topics as quickly as she
can.

Robert is another of our
presenters who recently graduated with a B.Ed., again specialising
in drama.
His presentations to schools so
far have received excellent feedback. To the point that the Vice
Principal of one school, when congratulating Robert on his
comprehensive knowledge of the presentation he was doing, was
stunned to find out that this was the first morning Robert had
presented this topic. (A tribute to his natural abilities, as
much as to our extensive training preparations.)
Robert is hopefully arriving
back from a sabbatical in the US soon.

Rosie has been interested in
history and geography since doing her B.A. (before having a
family), and has recently completed her Dip. Ed. as an adult
'second career' student.
Rosie is another teacher who
approached us after hearing one of our presentations at a History
Teachers Association of Victoria conference. She loved the idea of
what we do, and looks forward to exploring as many school
environments as possible while teaching her favourite
topics.
|
Nyssa recently
completed her B.Ed, with a specialisation in Drama. She has
massively increased her placement activities through regular days
with our incursion programs,
and has been experimenting with adding more to our role play sessions.
The feedback from both students and teachers is that Nyssa is
an outstanding teacher. (In fact more than one school has asked for
her resume.)
Nyssa is
taking a sabbatical in Europe this year (and, judging by the
reference requests from UK teaching agencies, taking the
opportunity to get a little bit more hands on
experience).

Peter
Mrkusich spent many years as a New Zealand Secondary teacher, and
is now a private music teacher and stage
performer.
He
adds considerably to the depth of our performance based
presentations.
Peter
specialises in the topics that involve group participation,
teamwork and co-operation, such as Troubadours, Games, and
Sports; and
has received good reviews from teachers and students for his
engaging manner.

Miesje has an honours degree in
Medieval history, and is yet another of our staff who has enjoyed
presenting so much that she is completing her Dip Ed. through
Monash University.
While she finishes this, she
has taken a full time Research Assistant position working for
Professor Horner at the National War Memorial. (We look forward to
getting her back after she finishes her school rounds.)
Miesje has also presented at
one of the European open air re-enactment centres - in her
case the Whealdon-Downland Museum.

Laura recently graduated her
B.Ed (with Dean's Honours), and has since worked a number of
contracts at schools. Although she has regular emergency work,
particularly for the schools who talk glowingly about her abilities
as a classroom teacher; she has taken the opportunity to further
explore her background in medieval history in a hands on fashion
(and to expand her exposure to different schools).
Her presentations are lively
and engaging, and her feedback forms have been
excellent.
